Unable to write to CloudStor drive from remote location
« on: October 19, 2011, 06:55:57 PM »

I recently purchased the BUFFALO CS-WX2.0 2TB CloudStor device.
It works well enough within my LAN.
My primary goal in purchasing it was to be able to access it as a drive from my desktop at work.
I installed the POGO desktop software on that machine.
The software creates a P drive.
I can see the files on the drive in an Explorer window.
I can copy files from it.
I am unable to copy any files to it or change and save any of the files.
I get a 'disk full' error when I try.

Oddly, deleting a file works.

The computer with this behavior is running Windows XP.

Any suggestions for fixing this would be appreciated

Thanks

I think that in order to get full functionality, you need to purchase a Pogoplug license.

You have the option to upload files by E-mail.  Maybe this is good enough.

There is also a new Firmware, maybe there are new functions in it.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't believe you are correct.

I am able to access the P drive with read and write capabilities from my Vista laptop at home or over a WiFi network.

On the XP machine on my desk at work I can only read and delete.

Good enough would be a personal preference. For me, the ability to use this as a drive in explorer is essential. Neither the email interface or the web interface allows opening files via all applications, modifying and saving them seamlessly.

I would uninstally the app, remove the app data from the applications folder and then reinstall. This should fix the issue. If not, you may want to give pogoplug's support a try as this is actually they're app and they would fully support it.

Thanks for the reply.

At your suggestion, I uninstalled, deleted all traces of Pogoplug in Application Settings and reinstalled.

Rebooted.

Reinstalled.

No joy.

Same behavior.

I've searched the PogoPlug forums and basically found more than a few folks reporting problems but only one similar to mine reporting a conflict with the RDP protocol.

I can't really do without RDP on this machine.

Honestly, I think I need to find something with FTPS or WebDav support. PogoPlug sounds fun but a proprietary protocol that requires admin access to install isn't practical for transparent access anywhere.

Any suggestions?

I have tested it in my office, and in my case we route all the internet trafic thrue a proxy.  Pogoplug is not working.

Maybe you have a network issue.

Check router's firewall and maybe proxy settings.

If it works from public internet location like Starbucks, then I'd conclude you are set up and working correctly, and it is something with your corporate network, firewall, policy causing your problems. If that's the case, you'd need to talk to whoever manages your corporate firewall into adding pogoplug access.

Thanks

That's what I was afraid of.

What ports are we talking about?

Ports to be forwarded for Pogoplug(which handles all web accessibility in Cloudstor:)

  • All ports are both inbound AND outbound
    • TCP 80, 443 for Authentication
    • UDP 4365 for File Transfers
    • UDP 3333 for Local Traffic

If your Firewall requires whitelisting for pogoplug file transfers: Based on geolocation, the central pogoplug service selects among the following urls for America, ALL UDP port 4365:

    • pm1.pogoplug.com
    • pm2.pogoplug.com

Didn't work. Ah well.

Honestly, this is too much work anyway. I had hoped for something simple.

Thanks again for trying.?

As I said earlier. I'm going to try to find something with FTPS and/or WebDav support.

If anyone has used a different product and had good luck, please let me know.

This Cloudstor is my personal "toy".  The fact is that I support the IT policy regarding this restrictions.

After spending hours browsing around this forum and the PogoPlug forums and getting nowhere with Buffalo's tech support I decided to abandon the Cloudstor and buy a Synology DS211J.

In no time I was able to set that NAS up as an FTP and WebDav server that I could log in to from anywhere and map as a network drive from anywhere.

Furthermore, doing so didn't require the installation of additional software on the client machine or admin access on the client machine.

It did not require asking our corporate IT folks to change anything related to ports on the client machine or the corporate firewall.

Finally, the Synology is much faster than the Cloudstor device.
