Buffalo Linkstation Pro LS-XHL

Serial:  95826410306912?

In my company notes, it says model is LinkStation LS-CH1-OTL?

Windows 7.  Office 2003

Firmware 1.41, there was an update, but the release notes look unrelated:

Firmware Release notes:  Ver 1.43 (2011.7.5)

Fixed the problem that configuration by UPnP of WebAccess for specific routers could not be made.

User has the drive mapped as NAME-NAS  to drive X:

When we try to open an excel document on the device, whether by sharename or IP, it crashes excel.

Excel just stops responding and you have to close it.

I can copy the same excel document to the desktop and open it just fine.  Took about 30 seconds to do that.

This device is brand new, and was just installed on 5/06/2011.

Please help.  I will be watching this thread, any questions, anything I need to post let me know.

I bet this is the Excel security update.

Saw this with a few machines a couple of weeks ago. Look at your Windows updates & uninstall the one for Excel security.

The 'update' crashes Excel when opening workbooks over a network if using Office 2003. The machines I saw with the problem were running XP but the symptoms are identical.

In those cases, if you killed Excel & then opened Excel (not the file), the file that crashed was listed as a recovery file. Selecting it would open the file, you could edit it & save it ok, but next time you opened the file Excel crashed again.

Sorry I'm not exactly sure of the update name.
