Link Station Duo LS-WX1.0TL/R1-EU Hard Drive
« on: September 28, 2011, 03:59:41 PM »

Hello everyone!

I recently got the above listed Link Station from my friend, he upgraded and let me have his 'old one'.  He said all I needed to do was get a 3.5 SATA HD, install the disc, and boom! ready to go!....

...no...

I can't get anything to work at all.

The software can't see the Link Station and I can't use the TFPT Boot stuff (which I have read, downloaded, including the firmware from Buffalo)...

So what do I need to do to get it working?

Okay I've read the solution you posted, thank you!, but I'm only running a Hitachi 500gb HDD istead  of 1TB.

I've followed the directions but when I get to #3 I have to stop.  The blinking blue light never goes solid and the download of the TFTP you supplied just stays at 'accepting requests'.

There's nothing on the HDD since it's brand new, straight from the box into the LS.

So what am I still doing wrong?

Disk size is not a problem.

Even without disk TFTP boot should work.

It could be a network problem.

Try a direct Ethernet cable connection.

Make sure firewall is disabled.

Make sure TFTP server is running before pressing function button.

Everything is turned off and I have always been running on a direct ethernet connection between my laptop and the LS ... it's still not working :(

I've changed my IP address to what was suggested - everything, nothing is working  and I'm not sure as to why.

Turn off your 2nd adapter. It should only be listening on 192.168.11.1 and 127.0.0.1. I've seen where this will get in the way of the TFTP.exe seeing the unit. Also make sure that after it gets the six red lights to hold the function button for 5 seconds.

I did as you said and still nothing, I even changed out my ethernet cord thinking it could be the cord or something.

Oh! I missed something! Make sure that the drives you put in there are unallocated. If they have any partitions on them this WILL NOT WORK.

Would there be partitions already on a new hard drive?  I literally just opened up the box that I bought it in and put it into the LS.

Maybe? I would check. Plug the drives into a box and check through disk management to see if they are unallocated. You could also try doing this with just a drive in only slot 1.

Not entirely sure how I'm supposed to do that with my laptop....
