Why can I map some only by IP address?
« on: May 21, 2012, 08:52:40 AM »

We have several buffalo NAS devices (lots of different models, both TS and LS) .  Some of them show up in network neighborhood, some don't.  Some I can map by name (\\ts-mumble), others I can only map by IP (\\10.1.2.xxx).  Why?  What determines how the device "advertises" itself?  I also have a couple of NAS drives that I can access from windows but don't show up in NASNavigator2 (V2.31).

Any help most appreciated.

Perhaps a bit more info (and maybe it's more a windows problem?)

All of the devices are visitble by name from a Win 7 client.  The biggest problem appears to be a "Windows Server 2008R2 Standard" system where only some of the systems are visible by name.
