Pro II - System Error E04- Failed to Load Kernel(Flash Error)

   Terastation fails to boot with E04 error code. Help!!

• Download the TFTP Boot software from the FTP site. There is adifferent version of the software for each NAS device. It is currentlyon available on the FTP site, but may soon be on the main Buffalo site.

• The Software is a self-extractor, so when the user click onfile it will ask them where they want to extract the files to. TheDesktop is a good choice, but anywhere will work just as good.

• Set the IP address on the computer to 192.168.11.1

• Connect the Buffalo NAS to the computer, or for an easier way, connect the computer and NAS to a switch or router.

• Launch the TFTP Boot.exe

• Boot the Buffalo NAS into EM Mode. (power on holding the reset button)
• It may take up to 60 seconds for the NAS to boot off TFTP and be detected by the NasNavi
  • A copy of the NasNavi.exe is included

Once the NasNavi utility "sees" the Buffalo, you can start the firmware update.

on the FTP mentioned above, i don't find my linkstation model: HS-DGL, which is at firmware version 1.62.

I guess the HS-DHGL with vs 2.10 is not ok ?

Yes that's the one that you want.

So you're saying the firmware of the HS-DHGL is compatible with the Linkstation HS-DGL?

The firmware versions on the buffalo site are not the same: 1.62 for the HS-DGL and 2.11 for the HS-DHGL.

That's why i am a bit surprised and wanted to double check.

Hi,

yesterday I tried out the procedure described above:

 

- i put the self-extractor on the hard drive of my portable

- ip adress of my portable was set to 192.168.11.1, subnet to 255.255.255.0, gateway to 192.168.11.1

- buffalo HS-DGL connected to my switch

- portable connected to my switch

- no other connections to my switch apart from the power of course)

- i launched the TFTP Boot.exe, it launched successfully

- I booted the Buffalo NAS by pressing the power button while holding the reset button

- when launching the nasnavi, waiting, refreshing, waiting some more, refreshing some more; nothing happened. My portable could not find the NAS

 

I also tried to run the flash updater software form the duffalo driver site; this one did also not recognize my NAS.

 

Anybody some ideas?? I can't believe that this cannot be fixed ...

No, the firmware for the HS-DHGL is not compatible with the HS-DGL.

 

It seems as though JoshC's post regarding this is incorrect, perhaps he misunderstood your question or misread it.

I do apologize for any misunderstanding.

 

What exactly is the model number  and name of your unit?  You can find the model number on the back or bottom of your device.
