LS-CHL EM-Mode when function button is broken

Hello,

 

The function button of my LS-CHL is dead.

So is there an another way to go in EM Mode without this button ?

 

I need it cause I just have to change the hard drive and i can't boot it until the partition will be recreated by the installer.

 

If it's impossible to go in EM, can I create the partitions manually (from a Linux box) ? (when I try, the ls-chl just blink 6 times which means it doesn't recognise the disk).

When you put a new drive in the box you will not have to boot it into EM mode. The unit will either auto boot into EM mode or it will not boot at all at which point you will need to TFTP boot it and then you can run the firmware updater and format it.

My idea was also to recreate the partition table "by hand" connected the hard drive directly to my pc but it doesn't work.

I really appreciate to understand how buffalo make the partitions. Any idea ?

another idea (as i can't rebuild the partitions table by hands) is to copy a working partition table.

Is there someone there that can run this command on the LS-CHL (not a v2 !) :

dd if=/dev/sda of=lschl.mbr bs=512 count=1

 

and send me the file lschl.mbr

You might not be able to tftp boot, but you could try. It might still pass the packets without pressing the function button.
