Very slow writes to HD-PX500U2
« on: May 31, 2011, 01:02:15 AM »

I have owned a Ministation HD-PX500U2 for probably 18 months, and have been happy with it.

Now the disk is about 90% full, and writes begin to be VERY slow. It will write for 5 seconds, stop for a minute, write for 2 seconds, stop for a minute, write for 20 seconds, stop for a minute, and so on. (To copy a file of close to 1 GB took me over 10 minutes.

If you do not believe me - I took a screenshot of the Windows task manager. Here is a link:

Any ideas for causes and - even better - what to do about it?

Best regards, Heinz

The disk is 90% full. That is why it is slowing down. This happens on all hard drives.

you need to move data off that drive, so the files can transfer around easier.

better to have 70-80% full on hard drives.
