I have a backup scheduled to run from my linkstation XHL onto an external 250Gb Western Digital Passport USB drive each evening. The backup runs in incremental mode so that old files are removed, and new ones added as my linkstation files are modifed each day. The problem is that the backup works fine for a while (maybe 1 or 2 weeks), and then I start getting rsync errors such as the following
-------- BEGIN BACKUP 2011/02/21 20:30:11 disk1/Home_Share -> LS-XHLF5B@usbdisk1 --------

The USB drive is formatted with XFS, I've tried reformatting it, which solves the problem for a few days before the error comes back again. I was originally experiencing the problem using firmware v1.10, but I updated to v1.40 and the problem remains.
Any ideas on how to solve this would be much appreciated as it really is vital that I have a backed up system given the large amount of files that would be lost in the event of a disk failure on the XHL!
