Linkstation Duo installation without using setup program

I'm interested in purchasing a LinkStation Duo 2TB 2X1TB NAS (LS-WX2.0TL/R1) but I rather install it without the software and manual configure it. For example I would like to set it up like a I would setup a linksys router without using the proprietary software. Is this possible?

 

It would be setup on Windows Server 2008

Yes, with one caveat: You would want to install the software at least once to find what IP address it pulls out of the box so that you may access the firmware and set to a static IP address. Otherwise no issue. I don't use the software either.
