Adding LinkStation LS-WXL/1D to 2003 AD
« on: February 03, 2011, 03:44:05 PM »

I'm having the hardest time adding my recently purchased LinkStation to our AD domain to the end of being able to assign permissions to AD users and groups.

So far I have:

Clicked on the Network tab

Selected Workgroup/Domain

Selected Active Directory

Entered the domain Netbios name

Entered the domain's DNS name (which contains a - )

Entered a local DC's name (without the domain info)

Tried using several different accounts (members of domain admins)

Tried with and without a WINS server IP address

I've tried creating a computer account and also with not creating an account. When I do not create an account it adds a computer account in the default Computers OU... But after all that is done, if I leave and return to the workgroup/domain area it still has Workgroup selected. So i'm not able to select users from AD for permissions to shares. The AD domain is in Windows 2003 mode... could that have something to do with my issues?

Any ideas welcome... what am I missing?

I'm also getting this message even though it creates a computer account on the domain:

Failed to join Active Directory Domain.
Please check the Active Directory Domain setting information, Administrator user name and password. Also, make sure that your network settings are correct.
