Adding USB Drive to Linkstation LS-CHL-V2
« on: January 02, 2011, 07:12:56 PM »

i would like to add a external wd drive thats currently connected to my windows xp computer (ntfs format) to my LinkStation LS-CHL-V2 NAS Storage. My question is what will happen if i connect it to the NAS? Will all my data be lost? Should i offload all info on external usb drive and have the NAS format it to FAT32? Will the drive still be able to be seen when connected to a Windows Computer? I just want to use the usb drive as a backup in case the NAS fails!

Thanks in Advance!!!

The NAS will not be able to read the drive.  When using an external drive with the unit you have to format it to FAT32 or XFS using the Linkstations web admin.

BTW, use XFS... Unless you are a complete Windows Shop. Just less issue.
