I now have two Linkstation pro duo's that will not complete tftp update. copies 1st two files over and over again (continuous loop). Is there an updated firmware other than available via downloads or is it a problem with my tftp client?

If it isn't booting into EM mode then most likely it is a defective unit and TFTP isn't working. If you get it into EM mode and the firmware just won't update it is likely a configuration issue.
Well both units started with the HD error (6led blinks), even with new hard, still cannot get firmware to tftp, copies 2 files, then repeats again and again...
After it copies the files it should boot into em mode. Make sure you have all firewalls disabled. If it's not working then it could be a bad HDD controller
