Degaussing a Broken JustStore Drive
« on: November 11, 2010, 01:33:22 PM »

I have an authorization to return a bad drive that has bad sectors. The drive shows up when plugged in, but it basically freezes and there's no way apparently to access the files. So, I can't format it in any way.

Nevertheless, prior to returning it, I want to erase the data. Can anyone suggest a way for doing this? Someone told me I can let it sit next to a powerful magnet and that would do it.

I'm not really sure if that would work. It seems like it would. Your best chance really would be to google it and see what kind of options you have. Or maybe linux might be able to see something and you maybe able to zero it out. But I cannot suggest to remove the drive from the case as it voids your warranty.
