Webaccess URL not working but IP address is working OK (DNS??)

If I use my external IP address and port 9000  (IE:  71.188.xxx.xx:9000), everything works ok however I can not connect using the buffalonas.com WebAccess Link.  What am I doing wrong.  I've given it a few days thinking maybe DNS needed to update.

 

Since my DNS is not Static, I figure this will make it easier than emailing everyone a new link every time my external IP Address changes.

Please try to set Disable Auto-Configure Firewall (UPnP)
External Port: 9000

Disable UPnP auto configuration.  Set it to manual, and set the NAS to listen for WebAccess traffic on port 9000.

 

Next, configure your router to forward external port 9000 (if memory serves me correctly) to the NAS's local IP address, also port 9000.  If that doesn't work, try forwarding external port 80 to internal 9000, at the appropriate IP address.  But I do think it's 9000 externally too, if you're using buffalonas.com as your means of dealing with a dynamic IP from your ISP.

 

Also be sure one of the NAS's shares is enabled for webaccess as well.

 

There is an alternative to the buffalonas.com option.  I use one of the dynamic dns services (dyndns).  If your router supports that, you can choose your own DNS name (as provided by dyndns.com), and can even forward the standard port 80 to your NAS's webaccess on port 9000.  Using dyndns, I've set up my-chosen-name.homedns.org as the DNS name for which port 80 is forwarded by my router to my NAS's port 9000 for WebAccess.  I happen to like this better than sending people through buffalonas.com, but that's just a matter of personal preference.

I encountered the same problem with my LinkStation Pro Quad. Here are my settings:

 

WebAccess Service:  Enabled

HTTPS/SSL Encryption:  Disabled

Use BuffaloNAS.com:  Enabled

BuffaloNAS.com Name:  xxxxxxxxx

BuffaloNAS.com Key:  xxxxxx

DNS Hostname:  -

Auto-Configure Firewall (UPnP):  Disabled

External Port:  NAS Internal Port:  9000

Exclusive session:  Disabled

Sessionexpiration time (minute):  30

WebAccess URL: http://buffalonas.com/xxxxxxxxx/

 

If i use my external IP address, it works (ie: 220.xxx.xxx.xxx:9000). However if i use the buffalonas.com webaccess link, it resolves to a wrong IP address, and therefore cannot connect.

 

How to solve this problem?

Try resubmitting your info through the web interface. If you IP address changed recently, you would need to resubmit it. The BuffaloNAS.com server is probably linking to an old IP.

I have tried many times resubmitting through the web interface, with different BuffaloNAS.com names, but it still doesn't work.

 

It seems that BuffaloNAS.com cannot get my public IP address correctly. I also tried to check my public IP address using whatismyipaddress.com, and the IP address shown is different from my real public IP address. Did i miss any router settings?

If the ip address stays the same when using buffalonas.com and reapply the settings in the interface does not fix the issue then you may need to reset the unit through the interface or update the firmware.

Tried it but failed. buffalonas.com just can't get my IP whereas dyndns and no-ip.com both have no problem. Clicked the connect button on http://buffalonas.com/ and it connects to my private IP. Now I just need Webaccess for android to to accept manually input URL for it to work.

Agreed. It's a shame that such a promising app is rendered useless because of buffalonas.com's unreliability. I wish they will allow us to specify something else as the URL rather then forcing us to use buffalonas.com - what a shame!

Same problem.

I am able to access my NAS over internet with IP but not with the URL.

I see that URL translation is not the same as my public IP.

So is it not updated in Buffalo server?

How can get it updated?

I would try re applying your webaccess settings in your LinkStations settings.

I think the latest firmware update allows you to use an external DDNS. I use this alternative and so far it has been reliable
