I have an LS-XHL with the latest firmware (v1.34). I just thought I'd give the embedded BitTorrent client a go and I must say I was pleasantly surprised to see it's an embedded version of uTorrent. However, it turns out the current version of the WebUI (v3.70) has a few annoying bugs preventing me from downloading a lot of torrents. When I try to add the URL of these torrents, the logger displays an error message:

[00:02:15] Request failure #1 (will retry in 2 seconds): action=add-url&s=http%3A//path.to/the.torrent

It then retries after 4, 8, 16 and 32 seconds, after which the WebUI displays a blank page with the text:

WebUI is having trouble contacting BitTorrent. Try reloading the page.

When I save the torrent locally on my HD and try to load it from there, nothing happens and the logger now displays:

[00:12:01] JS error: [3167] missing ) in parenthetical

Poking around the uTorrent forums, this apparently is a bug in the older versions of the WebUI. Wich is why I was wondering: is it possible to update the uTorrent WebUI only (since I already have the latest firmware)?

Unfortunately, there is no way to update it by itself.  However, it may be included in future firmware updates.  I would suggest putting it in the "feature requests" section

Ok, since I can't upgrade the client, is there any way I can actually get the current client to work?

I'm unable to add any torrent. Neither through a URL nor through a locally stored torrent file (see my original message for the error messages I get).

Try resetting your unit through the system then restore tab. Then try again.

Disabled and then enabled the torrent feature and then just restarted my linkstation.

Did not help and how is this going to remove an already known bug in that webui version ? :)

Buffalo should give us a firmware update that would also update the torrent feature.

.. still getting this error message after waiting for some time after trying to download a torrent file: "WebUI is having trouble contacting BitTorrent. Try reloading the page."

Ah, sorry I missed that. I didnt see whether you did the restore through the restore tab yet. And did you hit the "initialize bit torrent settings" button? After updating the firmware restoring to the factory settings is the best practice. You could even try reflashing the firmware with the debug mode enabled and choosing force update, do not check version and delete user config. That will restore the unit during the firmware reflash. No data will be lost and the file structure will remain intact. As far as I know there isnt a way to update just the torrent page.

Restore to 1.37 firmware for your unit following FAQ 2 of 5 that is pinned at the top of the storage forum.
