Backup error
« on: November 28, 2008, 11:07:46 AM »

I have a Linkstation LS 250gb which is not making a scheduled backup to usbdisk1. After 2 hours or more, the log reads as follows:

BEGIN BACKUP 2008/11/28 00:00:02 disk1/OFFICE-Share -> LINKSTATION@usbdisk1 --------
building file list ...
1060126 files to consider
rsync: fork failed in do_recv: Cannot allocate memory (12)
rsync error: error in IPC code (code 14) at main.c(654) [receiver=2.6.8]
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (8 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: error in IPC code (code 14) at io.c(463) [sender=2.6.8]
-------- END BACKUP 2008/11/28 02:11:28 disk1/OFFICE-Share -> LINKSTATION@usbdisk1 --------

What would be causing this to occur? How can it be confgured so it will be done reliably?

Force the firmware on the unit to the latest version, or reflash it if you are already running it.   Set the unit back to factory defaults with in the web interface.  Then try an immediate back up to see if the error continues.

   I'm still having the problem. I tried a reset, tried restarting the usbdrive1, reformatted the usb drive, everything short of reflashing the firmware. The unit is actually a 320, not a 250 as I earlier stated. The firmware in your database says it's 1.11, which is what the unit came with and I'm using. Are there any other backup options that I can use for a complete backup of the linkstation to usb (outside sources)? I'm really frustrated by this as we have important files that are not getting backed up: We're using the linksation as a file server on the network. Any further ideas? I'm feeling desperate at this time!

We have a mv2010 on our home wired network. All the PCs in the hose see it and connect to it. However, it does not appear when one uses the finder on the macbook (running osx), goes to connect server and then selects browse. How can I get the macbook to see the MV2010?

I have the same problem with a LS-WTGL/R1-V3 F/W 3.10.   I tried to change the backup destination to no avail. This just hasn't worked from day 1. Any ideas?
