LinkStation Duo Webaccess Domain login Problems
« on: March 23, 2010, 06:02:05 AM »

Equipment and configuration.

Linkstation Duo LS-WX2 OTL/R1-EU

Firmware Version : 1.22

The device is joined to a Windows 2003 domain and AD Domain Users and Group are recognised

The device can be seen using Buffalonas.com

WebAccess is possible using 'Allow Anonymous'

WebAccess is possible using 'Use Inherited Folder Permissions' using a local user login.

The problem occurs when trying to gain Webaccess using Domain Users credentials. The Domain User is given access to the share and 'Use Inherited Folder Permissions'  is active, the Domain User cannot get access however a local user account can.

The linkstation Auto-configuration Firewall is discable and the default External POrt is used. The Firewall uses NAT to route the buffalonas.com request through to the local IP address of the linkstation.

So all is well except Domain User Access.

Do the users have special characters in the passwords? The version of Active Directory on these machines cannot process special characters. They'rre fixing the but currently, but that could be causing problems. Also make sure the Date/Time is within 5 minutes of Domain time.

I got the same issue.

just updated up to firmware 1.31

still same issue.  the only users which can access the "WebAccess" feature are local LinkStation users.

Buffalo KB#000209 says, it’s a security flaw to use External Users (Domain Users) for ‘WebAccess’.

This is true, it is a security flaw because the domain username and password may be transmitted in an insecure manner across the internet, thus using  domain credentials for remote access is not possible.

Have you tried enabling HTTPS/SSL option in web access?  That may allow you to use domain credentials to access remotely, but as stated above, I wouldn't recommend it.

Read the above messages, this cannot be done with domain users!!! ONLY LOCAL USERS. :-)

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
Having network issues? Drop me an email: info@interwebnetworks.com and we will get it fixed!
