Hi!
I'd like to back up all the files on a hand-me-down Toshiba laptop before I reformat the HD and then do a clean installation of Windows XP.
I plugged my Buffalo MiniStation HD-PS320U2-US into one of the Toshiba's USB ports, but XP failed to detect it.
Searching these forums I found an old message that suggests I need to use an external power supply:
Buffalo Ministation is not detected
My drive does have an AC inpute marked DC 5V, center positive.
I'm wondering if it would be safe for me to use one of those "universal" AC adapters that have all the different kinds of plugs, voltage adjustment and polarity switches..
Or if I should try to find the AC adapter manufactured specifically for my device.
I Googled "buffalo ministation ac adapter" but that didn't turn up anything.
I don't know how to determine the firmware on my drive.
