TS-8VHL/R6 Unable to reset admin password
« on: December 07, 2020, 08:16:50 AM »
I purchased a used TS-8VHL unit and the admin password was changed. I tried the reset method with the red button found under the main display. I held it down for 5, 10, 20, 30 seconds, every time it just reboots the machine and the IP and password are the same (i.e. not reset back to a default state). I tried holding down the function button and this did nothing. I have no way to get the old admin password. I don't care to save any data on the drives. Is there a nuclear option to just get the thing working?

I made a post a while back with a method for resetting passwords on the Intel devices:

You can do a a reformat/reinstall from TSupdater in Debug mode. The process is in a post here:

10000000110100, I tried method #1 and cant get ubuntu to boot a desktop. It starts up and then just hangs with the background and a few icons in the upper left.

I cant do method #2 as i dont have a linux machine.

Any other ideas?

I don't remember any details about that ubunto live image. You might need to right-click for a list of programs and select terminal or something. On most linux systems ctrl+alt+f2 will give you a shell if all else fails.

You can also boot into a recovery disk and force a firmware update from there (I thought that was mentioned on the thread somewhere). You can create your own with this process:

I believe support can sell you a pre-made recovery image if you want too.

Update: Thanks for all the help. Your method #1 ended up working out in the end.
