Need firmware-stick for TS-WVHL
« on: August 10, 2020, 01:05:20 PM »
Hello!

A friend gave me a not working TS-WVHL. To find the "not working" was all too easy: the OS is broken, it can not boot.

The problem is: I have tortured Google hours and hours and more hours, but couldn't find anything usefull. Every solution that I found, was delivered per PM, not public.

Does anyone has an image, so I can test to reinstall the firmware via USB? This one, I will try. Maybe it works....otherwise a handle will be added, to throw this thing away.

Thanks a lot and have a nice day.

You can create a recovery disk image using this process:
https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Create_Recovery_Disk_for_Intel-based_Terastation

If you don't want to go through that process Buffalo support can usually sell you one as well.

Re-installing the stock firmware can then be done by writing the recovery image to a usb disk then booting from the usb disk (flip the switch on the back to USB). Once the device gets to Emergency Mode you can install the firmware using this process:
https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Restoring_Stock_Firmware_without_TFTP
**There an extra step mentioned on that page for 2-bay devices that you'll want to use.

You also have the option to install Debian linux instead of the stock firmware. Information and installer images can be found here:
