Buffalo Terastation 1400 16TB (4x4TB)
« on: June 22, 2020, 01:15:50 PM »
I am looking for a NAS setup, which will be used for storing video files in high quality (2-3 GB each), wherein they will be streamed on TV and mobile devices.

Yesterday, I was just browsing through and I came by the Buffalo Terastation 140, but I can't find any proper reviews on it. Anyone in this subreddit that has heard about this or know someone who has one? I really need to hear your opinions on this one.

The specs are as follows:

Internal: 4x 3.5", SATA 3Gb/s, hot-swap • external: 1x Gb LAN • Additional connectors: 2x USB 3.0 (Host), 1x USB 2.0 (Host) • RAID level: 0/1/5/10/JBOD • CPU: ARM, 2x 1.20GHz • RAM: 512MB DDR3 • Power consumption: 150W (operation), not specified (idle) • Dimensions (WxHxD): 227x127.5x177mm • Weight: 5.40kg • Special features: iSCSI, FTP server

The one I am going for has the following HDD setup: BUFFALO TeraStation 1400 - NAS server - 16 TB - SATA 3Gb/s - HDD 4 TB x 4 - RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10

I have one, it works reasonably well. With the door on the front shut it does not have great airflow. I've never had trouble with it but have worked with someone who was trying to run 4x 7200rpm drives and it sounded like they ran into thermal issues.

You can install Debian Linux on it rather than the stock firmware which opens up some interesting possibilities if you're into that type of thing:
