Unable to view files
« on: April 20, 2020, 02:34:56 PM »
Hi,

Have previously downloaded several mp4 format files and have successfully viewed via Smart TV on network from NAS. Have recently downloaded several more mp4 format files however whenever I select to view these through the Smart TV it states file type unrecognised (or something along those lines).

I can view the exact same from the NAS through my PC with no problems.

Can anyone offer an explanation and especially a solution to this. It's driving me mad!

Thanks in advance,

Zoskie

Could be a lot of things.

There are some different types of MP4 that aren't all supported the same. In particular, like many formats there was a 4GB limit based on a 32-bit address space for the format which was fixed by changing to a larger (64bit?) address space. Many older implementations do not understand those files. If these files have the newer format that might explain things. I imagine any combination of codec differences could have the same effect.

You could probably use VLC (or similar) to show you the metadata for a working file and a non-working file and spot what the difference is.
