LinkStation TFTP Image - LS-QV12TL/R5
« on: April 05, 2020, 02:18:13 AM »
Hola.

I have a LinkStation Quad (LS-QV12TL/R5) that has the six red blinking lights but four apparently good drives. Needless to say, it's out of warranty.

I've read through everything I can here (and elsewhere) and it looks like I need to do a TFTP boot. I have the instructions, but no image and all the links I can find to one are dead.

Does anyone have (or know the link to) the image I should use to unbrick this NAS?

Thanks,

Hal

This post has the details needed to extract the needed files and to perform a fresh firmware install if that’s what your after.

Note that that will usually include wiping the data on the device, if you’re looking to recover data you’ll want to look into that first.

Thanks, 1000001101000.

There's no data to recover, so I'm happy to wipe the whole thing.

I'm not seeing a link in your post though. That's the key bit I need.

Here is the post:

You can also install Linux on the device if you prefer:

Aha. Many thanks!

I tried your "without TFTP" approach.

I've managed to extract the two .buffalo files, rename them and copy them onto a freshly wiped and partitioned disk 1. I've tried each of the two uImage files in turn. However, booting up always gets me to the same place. Six red blinking lights.

I presume EM mode shouldn't look like that?

Nope, you’ll get a solid white/blue light for em mode.

If you post the output of the commands you’re running I can look them over for issues.

And I'm not getting that.

I'm clearly doing something wrong here as I don't see where I can enter commands.

What I did was to take Disc 1 out of the NAS and attach it externally to my Linux desktop. I followed your instructions to remove the existing partitions and create a new one, then copy over the two .buffalo files. Then I put it back in the NAS and switched on. I tried both a standard boot, with just the power button; and a fix one by holding the Function button as I press power and then pressing it again.

Switching on gets me a flashing blue light. That stays until the drives all light up green. Before long it changes to the six red flashes.

What am I missing?

In a previous thread I posted my full terminal output from when I set up one of the older devices. The same process should work for yours, though I think for that device only one of the *.buffalo files needed to be extracted where yours needs both:

If you run into trouble you can post your output similar to what I've posted and I may be able to help identify where things went wrong.
