Replacing hard drive - does size matter?
« on: November 13, 2019, 12:36:16 PM »
I have the Buffalo LinkStation LS-WXL (2 bay) and one of the drives has failed so needs replacing.

Does it matter on size of the hard drive? For example, if it's currently 500GB in each bay, can I put 1TB in the failed one?

My plan in the future (cost depending) is to swap the working on to 1TB, but for now can I have one at 500GB and one at 1TB?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can replace the disc with a larger one, however the size of the raid won't change even after both discs have been replaced with larger ones. You will need to backup the data externally and the remove / create a new raid once both discs are replaced
