Linkstation Pro Duo not detected by laptop on WiFi
« on: September 02, 2009, 09:10:22 PM »

I have a 500GB LS Pro Duo, and the wake on lan works great with my wired desktop computer (although it's slow... probably takes 3-5 minutes to boot after my PC is already up and running).

I also have a Vista laptop which we only use on wireless, and the LS never wakes on lan. If both computers are up, the LS will also be up, however as soon as the (wired) desktop is shut down, the LS also shuts down and so again the laptop can't access it.

Any ideas? I do have NASNavigator2 installed on both PCs.

Many routers will not pass wake on lan packets from wireless to wired.  You can try disabling firewalls on the vista machine.  If the nas navigator on the vista machine finds it it should work with the auto feature.

I recently purchased a 1TB Ls Pro Duo and has similar issues.

I finally discovered that WOL was activated by a service named "NAS PM Service"

For some reason this service is configured as "automatic"  but never starts even when launching NAS Navigator.

You can activate it manually by going to ControlPanel --> Administrative Tools -> Services, check its status to see if this is your issue as well. Click on start  if not live yet.

Or at the CLI say:

$ net start "NAS PM Service"
The NAS PM Service service is starting.
The NAS PM Service service was started successfully.

To ease this I created a desktop shortcut.

Hope this will help you as well.
