Got a Buffalo Terastation 3 free from work
« on: September 14, 2019, 03:52:53 AM »
So I got this from work, old NAS that got replaced. Just updated firmware to latest edition, but I have never set one of these up before!

I would like to setup Plex eventually and have stuff downlading to the NAS and then transfering to plex. How would I go about that and how would I go about resetting this thing to begin with?

I have NAS Navigator 2 on my PC, but the current shares dont seem to be accessible unfortunately. Would I need to erase the disks and start fresh?

This model is easier than most to install the stock firmware since it has built-in Nand flash it can boot from for the install. Just put blank drives into it and power it on and it will go into EM Mode. You can then install the firmware with tsupdater in debug mode:

Of the stock firmware doesn’t meet your needs, I’ve recently gotten these devices running Debian Linux as well. I’ve heard back from someone who installed openmediavault on their’s and have been pretty happy with it so far.

I haven’t posted an announcement for it yet since I’m still working on it but if you’re interested check out:
