Can't set R/W permission
« on: September 02, 2009, 02:37:01 AM »

Hello,

I have a Linkstation LS-CH1.0TL.

Original Firmware 1.10 update to 1.21 doesn't make a difference.

When I try to set access restrictions on a share using a Mac, running Snow Leopard,  I can add a user, but I can not set the permisson to read/write.

Double clicking on the Permission, does not show the read-Read/Write popup.

I tried different browsers to no avail. Couldn't test different OS versions.

Using a PC running Vista and IE, the popup will show.

Is there any way to set permissions from a Mac ?

Regards

SH

Under the share folder support do you have apple check for those folders that you are gonna set the res. to?

Make sure that it is checked and see if that works.

I did set the option to Apple (and Windows), but it had nor influence.

It does not look like a filesystem related problem, just like a GUI related problem.

After setting the option from a PC ist shown Read/Write on the Mac, but can not be set to read, because the Popup does not appera.

It looks like the Javascript or whatever is used to create the Popup Menu does not work.

If the GUI is corrupted in any way try a firmware update and see if that helps.

If you read my starting post, you will know that I did an update and nothing changed.

I assume it's more like an incompatibility like other "browser" incompatibilities. Probably somebody at buffalo can check wether the error can be verified instead of sending me around.

I agree that 90% of all hardware problems can be solved by reinserting wires and toggling power switches, but this is one of the other 10% at least I beleive so, and it's no hardware problem strictly speaking anyway :)

Apologys for missing that firmware version :smileywink:.  Have you tried using firefox at all on the Mac?  Im pulling straws here so bear with me.  Ill also see if I can reproduce the same results and see what happens

I try my best to help you guys out.  I dont send people around.

As I wrote in my starting post, I tried different browsers, one of them being Firebox.

As "incompatibilities" happen once in a while it's always good to have a second browser around.

I couldn't test Safari on a PC probably the same problem occurs with that. Not that it would really help, but it would be a pointer into the direction of the problem.

Josh, I appreciate it when somebody tries to help. I'm sorry if I sounded offensive, but I get touchy, when I get the feeling it's just standard questions to be asked, whether already answered or not.

Thank you for your help.

Let us see if we can reproduce the results.

I am having the same problem with Snow Leopard and LS-XH1.0TL. I get the same 45 error message. I can"t even get disk utility to see the LS-XH1.0T.  Finder can see the TimeMachine Volume and all my other files are available on the other folders.  Just a problem with Time Machine.  I sent a tech support email 5 days ago on this problem and still have not heard.  Encouraging to see others with the same problem-  not just my set up obviously!

Any news ?

Can you verify the problem ?

I checked with 10.5 and the problem exists as well .

I solved the problem by giving the Livestation back and buying a different brand.

Awesome. If you still had it you could have used an application called  "BatCHmod" from the Mac side to reset all of the permissions.
