LS-WTGL/R1-V3 error: ACP_STATE_FAILURE
« on: November 07, 2016, 03:51:09 am »
I have a Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo where one of the 2TB disks failed. I decided to swap it out for 2x4TB disks on the assumption that this would work and I could mirror them in RAID1 configuration.

I install the drives, TFTP serves both files to the Linkstation fine, but when I go to update the firmware with LSUpdater, it gets about 1/10th of the way through formatting and pops up an error ACP_STATE_FAILURE. Subsequent attempts to update the firmware result in ACP_STATE_FAILURE coming up immediately.

Things I've tried:
1. Using ACP Commander to clear the boot record and start again. Same issue as above.
2. Trying all variations of connecting directly to the NAS and going through the router.
3. Trying all variations of settings in the Update and Config sections of LS Updater.
4. Running LS Updater on WinXP as well as Win10.

Is this just because the LS Pro Duo won't support 4TB drives? I'm using Seagate NAS 4TB SATA drives, which supposedly have 4K physical bytes per sector but emulate 512-byte sectors.

If acp commander fails to resolve the issue and it reports the acp stat is OK then you're looking at a faulty unit.
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

ACP commander seems to successfully clear the boot and yes, it reports the ACP stat as ok. So I guess I need to look for another NAS :-(

Hi Davo - I have been reading posts and can see that you have helped a lot of people with their Buffalo NAS problems and was wondering if you had any advice for me - background to my problem below:

1) Removed 4 x 500G HDDs from LS-QL in good working order to clean using Windows tool (thinking I could just reinsert in the LS-QL and that they would be automatically rebuilt!) - I removed partitions and volume information on all disks before reinserting them into the LS-QL

2) Connected my LS-QL directly to my PC with Ethernet cable, changed my PC IP address, and downloaded TFTP recovery tool for LS-QL - was able to get Navigator 2.91 to recognise my LS-QL in Emergency Mode

3) Downloaded Firmware LSUpdater v1.11 and modified ini file to set noformat and versioncheck = 0 and also set debug = 1

4) Ran LSUpdater.exe with debug options all checked - I have run multiple times in SAFE +Networking mode, after restarting LS-QL, after restarting PC but LSUPdater program aborts and I keep getting the "ACP_STATE_FAILURE" error

I have searched all forums and I can not find a way to fix this.  Any suggestions?  thanks ...

You need to use acp commander to clear the ACP STAT Failure error. If you don't have it then PM me.

Sorry, I only use the command version, you would need to run:

Java -jar acp-commander.java -t “NAS IP” -cb -reboot
pause

You can then check the ACP State with the output of the application.
All going according to plan it should say "ACP STATE = OK" and then it will reboot the NAS.

Hi davo - I successfully ran acp command and received ACP State = OK message then "rebooting" - but my LS-QL booted with red error light blinking - I tried to use TFTP to boot again but could not get it to book - after a few tries the LS-QL is now in a state with power in solid blue and function light blinking blue - it has been this way for about an hour - should I leave like this overnight or try powering down and powering back up the LS-QL?

Davo - I finally got my LS-QL to accept the TFTP boot and the firmware update appears to have occurred successfully! I can access folders on drive but no showing as Unformatted disks in NAS Navigator - one last problem - when I log in as administrator I am given what I think is a Korean login page - can you tell me how to fix this?

Davo - thanks I was able to change language of web browser admin interface back to English - but one small problem remains - when I logged in only the first disk was shown as formatted so successfully formatted Disk 2 and Disk 3 but when I tried to formal Disk 4 I received a quick message saying that format complete - but admin interface is not showing Disk 4 as formatted and now the LS-QL power button is giving me an amber message I22 and the NAS Navigator is giving me an error saying "E22 Can Not Mount Disk 4" - I have tried reformatting Disk 4 a few times but I am still getting this error - Disk 4 should be good because when I removed it from system and formatted on my windows PC it formatted to FAT32 and worked fine - any ideas how I can fix this current error and format my Disk 4?  - thanks ...

I know this is old but I thought I would contribute and at the same time possibly get some help.

I'm having a problem formatting my LinkStation Duo Pro (LS-WTGL/R1-V3).  I'm using the TFTP bundle referenced in FAQ (3 of 5) and am able to successfully cold boot with it.

Using the firmware updater for this model I can't get past the first (format) phase.  After a couple a minutes I get the same error as reported by the OP in this thread.

I tracked down acp commander (gui) and the original and was able to determine what -cb (clear boot) is doing.

Code: [Select]
        if (_clearboot) {
            _state = "clearboot";
            // clear /boot; full /boot is the reason for most ACP_STATE_FAILURE messages
            // send packet up to 3 times
            System.out.println("Sending clear /boot command sequence...\t" +
                               myACP.Command(
                                       "cd /boot; rm -rf hddrootfs.buffalo.updated hddrootfs.img" +
                                       " hddrootfs.buffalo.org hddrootfs.buffalo.updated.done",
                                       3)[
                               1]);
            // show result of df to verify success, send packet up to 3 times
            System.out.println("Output of df for verification...\t" +
                               myACP.Command("df", 3)[1]);
        }

I see I've got about 85% free space before update and after I get the ACP STATE error I see that usage is at 100%.  I'm still working out what all is happening here between the emergency bootloader, partitions, mounts, etc, and the firmware updater so I really don't know yet if this is even related to my issue.

The two drives I'm using were working when I pulled them from some other hardware some time ago.  I am considering using the LinkStation Duo (non Pro) to see if I can get them initialized properly as I was able to get it up and running recently using the same great KB data amassed here.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Rather than start another thread on this topic, even though the last post was quite a while back, I'm tagging on because I have the same model (LS-WTGL/R1-V3).

Despite running ACP Commander (and editing the ip address to that of the link station) Navigator nor LS Updater can find the nas after it reboots once the batch file has ran.

Any pointers please as to why it cannot be found by either nasnavi or LSupdater because the only alternative I'm left with is to go back to the start of the whole process using TFTP boot, and get the same ACP_STATE_FAILURE abort early on in the format run every time.
