Active Directory on an LS520D
« on: February 27, 2019, 06:28:19 AM »
Hi all,

I have just purchased an LS520 and found it doesn't appear to have the ability to connect to our AD domain. Am I missing something, or should I take this back and get an LS220? In my naivety, I figured that the firmware would most likely be the same and it's just the CPU speed that's different.

This ist not available on LS520D

I recommend you the TS-231p from QNAP for 170€

The LinkStation line is considered a consumer grade device and therefore does not AD authentication. Buffalo TeraStations all have AD authentication.

Can you confirm if the LS220 is AD enabled before I go out and grab one? The spec sheet says it is.

What spec sheet are you looking at? I don't see that on anything I'm looking at.

I stand corrected. The LS200 devices DO support active directory authentication.

Before I send this back.. don't suppose the firmware is interchangeable? (worth asking!!!)

Glad I didn't throw the box out in my normal fashion.

No, the two devices have completely different hardware and the firmware is not interchangeable.

In light of all this, we would still recommend a TS3210 for business applications. It is much faster and includes NAS class drives as opposed to the desktop class drives in the consumer product.

Thanks for the recommendation. The drive is only going to be used for backing up the daily backups - in theory it's not going to bother us if it's not the quickest and slickest device at 4am, but I'll certainly take a look at the weapons-grade kit later on. I have to admit, I'm liking the reviews of that QNAP one linked above.
