2x LinkStation 210 4TB Drives Stuck on White Light Flashing
« on: February 10, 2019, 11:52:18 AM »
Hi
I'm hoping there is a simple fix for this.
We have 5 LinkStation drives... and the two LinkStation 210 4TB Drives went on the blink at exactly the same time.
I cannot access the drives via NAS Navigator or via their IP addresses.
The white light on the front just blinks continuously.
Have forced a reboot. Still blinks.
Have forced reboot in the "off" position. When putting on, just blinks.
What can I do?

  • There's no problem so bad you cannot make it worse

sounds like it's getting past the initial boot and then failing somewhere are startup, if it was failing to read the disk or the boot partition you would get the red E06 or E07 codes.

I think it stays in that state for a while if it's running a disk check after an unclean shutdown, you could try waiting it out for a night.

failing that, you can boot the device into EM mode and use lsupdater to reinstall the firmware without wiping the data partition.

To get started you'll need the boot files for the device which you can obtain with these instructions:
https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Extract_Boot_Files_from_Stock_Firmware

Then you should be able to get the device to boot from those files over TFTP:
https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Restoring_Stock_Firmware_via_TFTP

folks have had success following this blog post too:
https://www.aaronhastings.me/completely-recovering-from-a-bricked-buffalo-linkstation-ls200-series-nas-and-opening-the-firmware-too/

If you can't get tftp to work, I find it easier to load by connecting the drive to a pc and loading the files. Unfortunately the ls210 is a pain to get apart. If you do go that route I have pictures of one disassembled and a guide on what to do to directly load the files:
https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Linkstation_LS210D
https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Restoring_Stock_Firmware_without_TFTP

Once you get the device running in EM mode you will be able to access it with lsupdater from the updater.
