LS-WVL frustrations
« on: November 24, 2018, 07:21:48 PM »
I've been using a LinkStation with two 1TB HDD since 2012. I'm facing my third degraded array in six years. Now I know for you power users out there, this is probably nothing to whine about, but as an Average Joe Home User, this is quite frustrating. Does anyone have suggestions on trying to repair the bad drive without buying a new one? I'm at the point where I'm probably going to get a My Book external drive and plug it straight into my tower, unless there's someone who can talk me off the cliff. Thanks

Maybe you are using WD Green drives with Load Cycle Bug.
Fix the Bug
http://forum.nas-hilfe.de/festplatten-und-ssd-laufwerke/western-digital-in-einer-ls-xhl-load-cycle-count-t1435.html

which arror do you have?

Example
(197 Current_Pending_Sector)
you have to overwrite this sector

1. create a backup
2. overwrite the whole disk

I am using a SATA to USB3 adaptor and the windows tool hdtune

with windows you can read out the status of you disk very simple with crystal disk info
