LS220DE Array Rebuild Error
« on: September 17, 2018, 05:28:14 PM »
I am having a problem with my LS220DE ... I had a drive fail, so I installed a new unformatted drive of the same size/model, went to use the Recover RAID Array option as instructed, entered the confirmation code, and got the Rebuilding Array error ... The parameters for the specified method are invalid
I am using the latest firmware version 1.70.  Since I have considerable data on the functioning drive, I am not interested in starting from scratch unless required.

Any help is appreciated.

Same in multiple browsers?
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

if your old drive uses gpt, use gpt on the new drive (not mbr)

The drive is in the same format as the original. (gpt)

Did you delete all partitions on the new drive?

Yes I did.
I also tried formatting it but then it wouldn’t let me select it to rebuild the raid so I pulled it out and deleted all the partitions again but the problem persists.

On my LS-QVL i have to format a new disk on the linkstation before i can rebuild the array

If you format a disk on the 200 series via the Linkstation then you cannot rebuild the RAID.

However, format it anyways and see if the format completes successfully.

Which Raid level do you use

For RAID 0
Navigate to Drives > RAID in Advanced Settings. Select the array with the error, then click Delete RAID Array.
Navigate to Drives > Drives. Choose the new drive (the unformatted one) and format the drive. After formatting
the drive, change the RAID mode.

For RAID 1
Navigate to Drives > RAID in Advanced Settings. Select the array with the error, then click Recover RAID Array.
Follow the procedure on the screen to complete the drive replacement.

Yea as I said I tried recovering the raid1 array with both a blank disk and a formatted one.
When it was formatted I couldn’t even select the disk on the raid screen so couldn’t even tell it to recover the raid array.
And unformatted guves the error that the OP is also getting.

Backup the data just incase then reset the LS via the management - restore/erase - restore Linkstation tab.

Once done try the rebuild with the unformatted disk once more.
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Heck of a lot of data to backup!
Was hoping to not have to do that.

If you can't afford to lose the data you MUST make a backup NOW before you lose the lot. Trying to recover the RAID array without taking a backup first if you have the opportunity to do so is madness.

I can't believe that anyone still keeps all of their valuable data on a single drive or RAID array without a backup.

Not my NAS.
Owner has a backup apparently.
I’m more concerned about the fact that the NAS isn’t able to rebuild the RAID.
And it’s not just this particular one, since I’ve jumped onto a thread of someone else’s with the exact same issue.
Probably why Buffalo isn’t a popular brand in this country.
If no one has any other suggestions I think the owner is going to buy another one, different brand this time though.
