File names too long to backup
« on: July 02, 2009, 07:40:57 PM »

Just in case anyone else runs into this:

My TeraStation backup kept failing on the same folder despite repeated attempts. When I went into the folder I found that the file path was too long to be processed.

I had to rename the folders to single characters just so I could delete some of them. After that I was able to backup.

Most of these extra folders were created by automatic backup software that was backing up backups of folders with rather lengthy names.

Posting this here since this thread turns up high in Google results... I had this problem, and tried this LongPathTool. The free trial doesn't cover this feature, so I paid $30. It didn't work. And...it left 3 pieces of malware on my computer, all rated "severe" by my antivirus software.
