maybe more info will be useful.  The box has linux (suse) on it but the user forgot the password.  So, I'm using a live linux dvd to get to the /home are and back it up before installing it again.  The live dvd is running Linx Mint 18.3.

Does any of that help?

since the machine is in another location, I'll see if the owner can do and send he info, otherwise it may be a couple of days till I get there.
