TS51210RH9612 2 drives fail in two weeks
« on: April 30, 2018, 09:35:38 PM »
I have a Buffalo TeraStation TS51210RH

It has 12 HGST He8 8tb drives.  1st drive started getting bad sectors and died 2 weeks ago, the other died suddenly today.  Both drives had less that 4,000 hours on them

I have the NAS in a closet because the power supply is loud AF, the NAS has never sent a notification that it was over heating.  Can heat be killing these drives anyway?  If not any ideas what might be killing them?

What's the ambient temperature in the closet?

Another drive failed

3rd drive in close to 3 1/2 weeks

I've learned it is not a heat issue, this time the unit was in a 68 degree room.

All my troubles started after updating to firmware 4.00-0.36.  Unit worked great for 5-6 months, updated to 4.00-0.36 and a month and a half later 3 dead drives.

Only 3 people access this unit, all using same 1gig connection.  Over use is not an issue, it is mainly just used for storage.

Here is system log file

This is °C and not °F !

You NAS is to hot

read out the real temperatures of the discs

May 10 20:31:54 Buffalo fanctld.sh: fan0=fast->2413 fan1=slow->2420 fan2=full->2238

maybe its a bug with fancontrol

full speed 2238 is lower than slow 2420 ?

Backup you logs and post it to buffalo

they should pay for the discs
