TS-2rz Active Directory Join Issues
« on: February 28, 2018, 07:02:12 pm »
I've been trying to get our TS-7000 (TS-2rz) to join our windows server 2008 r2 active directory domain. So far, I have been unsuccessful in doing so. I have followed the KB article, and various videos available. My attempts have always resulted in failure.

The nas is reporting that the latest and greatest firmware is applied. The time and timezone are set the same as the DC, as the TS uses the DC as it's NTP server.

The AD DNS on the DC has the NAS in the dns in both forward and reverse zones. The netbios, dns and controller name are correct in the setup dialog. The NAS has the DC listed as the primary DNS, with another windows server DC listed as the secondary. The only thing I haven't tried yet on the NAS is unbonding the four nics and using only one of them.

The error messages in the log are below.

Feb 28 19:37:08 B4DATA nasapi:ERROR [network.py:1167] <20024,140445430576896> set_auth_settings - ad_domain : take ad_domain failed.
Feb 28 19:37:08 B4DATA nasapi:ERROR [NasApiException.py:91] <20024,140445430576896> __init__ - EXCEPTION NasApiException code=-116 (Failed to Operate) data={'ad_domain': 'take ad_domain failed.'} None

Does anyone have any ideas on what to try next?

Have you verified that the admin user's password doesn't have any special characters?

Do you have SMB 1 disabled on the DC? That will prevent the TeraStation from accessing the administrative shares on the DC that are required for the TeraStation to join the domain and pull a list of users/groups.

Yes, the password has never had special characters.

SMB v1 is enabled on the DC, and was at the time of my original posting. I gave up on the forums after no response for months with plenty of views, and just kept trying the same things and it eventually joined.
