Opening LS210D Case
« on: February 13, 2018, 10:09:21 AM »
The 2TB hard drive has failed in a single drive Buffalo Linkstation LS210D. Does anyone know how to open the case so that I can attempt to replace the drive?

It's held together by clips, this guide should be enough.

Yeah, I did find that one, but was hoping for something less Japanesey...

Anyway, accepting that was probably the best I was going to get I went ahead and did it with just a couple of end clip casualties.

Yeah, that case is not designed to ever be opened once closed.

I just want to say a big thanks to davo for helping me to get the LS210D going again with a new drive.

Would you be able to tell me how you got it fixed? I have been searching for two months to find a way to get my case opened/replace the hard drive, and I can't find anything.

Go the link that davo posted: http://y-naito.ddo.jp/index.php?id=1419753361

It's in Japanese, but is all there is I'm afraid and it shows the position of the 12 clips that hold the case together. You need to push thin bladed screwdrivers or knives into the case at each location and prise the case apart one side at a time. You will almost certainly break some of the clips, but there should be enough survivors to hold the case together; in any case the unit is a paperweight at the moment so you've got nothing left to lose.

Once the case is open, replacing the drive is relatively easy with davo's firmware and instructions.

Good luck!
