TS5400Rb2c MTU above 1500 will not allow web admin
« on: January 18, 2018, 03:59:01 PM »
I have been playing with increasing the MTU on many of our devices at work today. Our Buffalo TS will not allow be web access to the console unless my client is set at no Jumbo Frames.  Weird that anything above that I can see, read and write to the shares but just not access the https:// console.  If I change my client from a Jumbo MTU 9000 back to No JUMBO Frames I can see and access the web console.   Has anyone ever seen this? How did you work around it?

Thanks in Advance

Let me clarify:

When MTU is set to 9216 on the TeraStation you're able to read/write data, but from the same system that's able to read/write you can't access the user interface?

and you're using HTTPS, not HTTP. Does it work if you use HTTP?

Yes, if the Buffalo MTU is set at anything other than the default setting, it will not allow Web access with either HTTP or HTTPS.  I have to reset my client MTU to NO Jumbo frames so I can access the Buffalo Web Interface again.  This is the only way,  I tried every MTU I could above the default.  Weird thing is I can see the Buffalo Shares on the network when they are set at a higher MTU than the default and read and write to the share but, NO web access with HTTP or HTTPS unless the client connecting has No Jumbo Frames set at the Nic.   Very weird...

I'll have to try and replicate this.

What firmware version is installed on the TeraStation?

Firmware Version: 2.83-0.01 I guess I can close this out, this is weird, it's working today and I have no clue why.  It sure did not like the changes to the MTU yesterday but seems to be working fine today.  Very strange,  Thanks to all for the help here.

I tested on the latest (3.51) and had no problems. You might want to update the firmware, there are a lot of fixes and security updates between your current firmware and the latest version. Naturally we'd suggest backing up the data prior to applying the update just in case there's a problem. The latest firmware can be downloaded here: http://www.buffalotech.com/products/terastation-5000n-series
