Cannot create array on Terastation
« on: August 21, 2017, 09:39:53 AM »
I cannot create an array on drives 3&4 of a terastation. AN error message pops telling me creating an array has failed.

I have updated to the latest firmware.
I have tried seemingly everything available to me.

array1 reports as normal on drives 1&2
array2 reports as "No RAID array configured"

Although in the Drives section an array2 is listed as "degraded". This always comes back after multiple formats, partition deleting (via disk management on windows) and disk checks.

When going through the easy menu it lists drives 3&4 as no array configured but wants me to create a new array with all 4 drives.

The drives are fine. This is according to SMART data, the terastations own email reports (it tells me the drives are operating normally) and disk checks.

I get no option to delete the array as it is greyed out in the RAID menu.

Can anyone offer any tips? Wiping the drive and configuring all 4 drives as one drive is not an option. I have backups of the data too.

We don't have the 4000 series in the US but it should behave the same as a 5000 series. If it's showing a degraded array for array 2 under drives and no array 2 under RAID then the system's database has an error that may require wiping and restoring the unit and data.

That pretty much sums up what I'm seeing exactly.
What is the procedure for wiping and rebuilding the database?

On a 5000 I'd recommend wiping all 4 drives and reloading the OS from USB, but I believe that a 4000 can reload the OS from flash on the system. In either case you'll probably need to erase all 4 drives first.
