array2 degraded on TS4400D
« on: July 31, 2017, 07:12:22 AM »
Hi,

I have this issue in which the terastation tells me that array2 is degraded. However both drives appear as "normal" in the Drives section. I cannot rebuild the array. Searching around the internet leads me down the path of the HDDs being at fault. However I know the drives were bought new (WD 2TB Reds x2) to replace two which developed a fault (this was the last IT guy, I just took over when he left as a volunteer). The Check Disk runs without any issues either on both of the drives.
I've tried dismounting the drives and reinserting them a bit later, using the function key 3sec press for rebuilding the array once the message on the LCD popped up about detecting the new drives. But it always comes up as degraded.

I've set up the email notification but that doesn't tell me much that I don't already know.  I'll post some screenshots of what I see. Any ideas?

PS. there is a firmware update on it but I'm not going to do this until I have backed up the current data on it. http://imgur.com/a/nqjhu

I've managed to get it to say raid2 array failed now but still no luck getting the array rebuilt. I think I'll make a full backup again and wipe the whole thing and start from scratch.

I must say though, the documentation and support for this business oriented product is terrible. If anyone reads this and you have an issue with a Buffalo storage device, good luck!
