TS5400DE4A only has two drive bays
« on: April 26, 2017, 08:00:54 PM »
I have a few Terastations.   One is a TS5400DE4A.   But, it only has two drive bays.   I was under the impression that the TS5400 series had four drive bays.  I can't find any information on that specific model number.   Perhaps someone swapped out the guts of a TS5400 and put them into a TS5200 case??    It works fine with two drives, and says drives 3 and 4 failed.   Any thoughts?

It sounds like someone took drives from a TS5200 and put them in a TS5400 and the OS still believes it's a TS5400. You would have to do an OS recovery to correct this, meaning you need to reload the OS from a USB key. The file is available on the TS5000 download page.

Whoops.  That would be me.  I am new to NAS and Buffalo Terastations.   So far I like them.   I put two new hard drives in the machine and installed the software from the USB disk image.   I must've downloaded the wrong image somehow.   Oh well, it works fine and I have already set up the raid array and put data files on it.   So I am not too excited about changing it, unless anyone thinks I should to avoid potential issues in the future.

It shouldn't cause any problems to run as is.
