 binary newsgroup downloading with NZBget

"

NZBGet is a command-line based binary newsgrabber for nzb files, written in C++. It supports client/server mode, automatic par-check/-repair and web-interface (via additional package). NZBGet requires low system resources and runs great on routers, NAS-devices and media players."

NZBget and NZB-web-interface so you don't have to do command line.

People are running NZBget on the old NSLU2 as it uses very little system resources so it should run on every Linkstation.

I'd like the firmware to actually work before adding any new features.

The Macintosh Time Machine support is just broken - you need to read the support forums and do a bunch of manual BSD shell commands to get it to work. It remains unreliable even after that.

In addition - if features won't work without a firmware upgrade, and a firmware upgrade can only be done on a PC - how can you claim Mac compatibility with a straight face?

The web-based interface has many settings spread across many pages. To fully set up a LinkStation and utilize its many features is time consuming. If we have to set up several LinkStations, it's very time consuming. One or more of the following would make the setup easier:

  • a Windows based program, such as a much enhanced NasNavi configuration program, that allows for all settings to be set with a lightning quick response time (unlike the slow web based interface)
  • the ability to save all settings to a configuration file for later restoration on the same or another LinkStation (from both the web based interface and the aforementioned configuration program)
  • a command line interface, including the ability for commands to be scripted for repetitive tasks, would be the best improvement

It would be nice if a database server, such as MySQL, would be included.
