I would like to have a NAS with a FTP backup client built-in.

The operation would be like this:

- you copy your files to the NAS by ftp, shared folder or any way

- the built-in software on the firmware will make a second backup of this data trough ftp to another server

- it would have the options to do incremental, delta, mirror types of backup so only new files will be sent to the server

with this functionality you have:

- a second copy of your data phisically outside your office

- for laptops you only have to make one copy of your data using your network, then you can leave, it does not matter if the second backup will take several hours or days to complete

- if you got your NAS stolen or damaged (like a fire) you have your data secure in a remote server

I know you can backup the LS to anotherone on the network but then you will need to setup a NAS device in other place, and with this ftp solution you can buy some ftp space on the cloud.

what do you think about it?

It would also be nice if a FTP connection would bring the device out of sleep mode.

Mods, any ideas when the next firmware release will be??? and what features have made the list?

I keep pushing the requests to Buffalo Japan - they haven't told me which features will be implemented. Please keep sending in your requests - it's the best way to push for features.

btw - when you do a firmware upgrade for LS-CHL Live will you be updating both the LS-CHLv1 and the LS-CHLv2

that would definitely be at the top of my list. to provide the LS-CHLv1 hw with the same level of features and web UI as v2

thx

When next update will be forthcoming, and what it is in progress? Are there any milestones?

1) Bit torrent encryption

2) Bit torrent scheduling (of transfer speeds)

I've been monitoring this thread for a little while becuase I'm thinking of purchasing the 1.5TB version. The above 2 are completely essential for me, so if they appear I'll happily purchase one of these babys no problem.

Additionally, any release dates / changes been announced yet? Anything in the works?

Cheers,

MrNorm

Guys:

I just recently joined the Forum, Have a Question that may be connect directly/in-directly with this thread, I'd like to know if LS-CHL1.0 model's MediaServer has support for .MKV files?

I'd like to stream .mkv files to my Sony PS3 Slim.

Please PleasePlease

Can we have an update to the Twonky media Server that fixes problems displaying any pictures over about 10Meg Pixels - eg those taken by up to date cameras !

I believe this well recognised 4.4 level large file probelm is resolved in release 5 from Twonky so it shouldnt be too hard to support it from Buffalo ?

As a product developer I understand the wide range of demands on stretched resources but a well organised team should have some regular release plan... Please can you tell us if there is any schedule for an update ?

I have a Netgear NAS at home that seems to have a much more rich UI than the LS Pro Duo that we use at work. That said - We really need a more robust UI for key features like Disk Backup - one that gives status at the very least and allows one to cancel backups without booting into EM mode. All Buffalo has to do to enhance their product is buy the competing gear from Netgear and others and look at their UI features - it should be readily apparent what the UI is lacking.

I dig Buffalo products, don't get me wrong - but the UI for these Linkstations is really weak. Cobalt networks, ten years ago has a similar UI to these devices. Ten years ago this UI was state of the art.Ten years ago...

Looking forward to any future updates and enhancements!

Oh a wishlist !

Super!

1-

One thing, i have noticed, the webaccess settings are cleared as soon as we power off and unplg  the LS-CHL from the power supply.

Then the default settings as the BuffaloNAS.com (Name & Key) are cleared.

Each time I have to reactivate the webaccess !?

2-

Another thing is that we can not ?easily? ADD another shared folder to the web access.

3-

Copy and Paste (a simple move) on the LinkStation can take agees !!!

My wishlist:

- Ability to cancel a backup in progress

- Ability to cancel a "Direct Copy" job

- Ability to re-assign or disable the function button

- Selectable backup target folder within USB drives

Also, a more user-friendly backup interface would be welcome  ;)

Thanks to Buffalo for the thread!
