Windows 10 sees Linkstation LS-WVL/E NAS but can't access it...
« on: December 06, 2015, 09:34:02 PM »
Greetings!
So I have a home network on a Netgear N600 router and in the good old days (with Windows 7 and 8/8.1) the Buffalo LS-WVL/E worked like a charm NAS - everyone on my home network could see it. However, since the home network PC's upgraded to Windows 10, I have problem with one laptop. The devices seeing and accesing NAS are those connected via ethernet (Win10 Professional), but the laptop (Win10 Home) and XBox 360 can both see the NAS, but they cannot access it... It takes forever to connect and then error message pops-up on the lack of credentials. Even though the networks are set exactly same way as in the ethernet Win10Pro devices...

Any help will be appreciated!!!

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi All,

The fix for me was quite simple and quick.

Windows 10 for whatever reason changed the network location type to public, this blocked all access to the NAS drive.

Simply changing the network location to private resolved the problem.

Hope this helps someone else!

A Windows 10 update may have disabled SMBv1, which is the only version supported by this older LinkStation.
