@Scott - how long did it take them to contact you?  I opened a case, but I really need to get this fixed today so I can install this router.  If I can't get it fixed very soon, I need to send it back and order another one. Thanks!

If you purchased the router with the standard Buffalo firmware then it is up to the DD-WRT community to provide a version of DD-WRT that will convert the unit. Buffalo did not market or sell that router with the implication that it could be converted to DD-WRT. We do sell a version of that router with DD-WRT pre-installed.

Are you sure that the dd-wrt version of this router is available in the UK?

I am in a similar boat, but with version 2.29.

I followed a YouTube video by Buffalo Americas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFfLb5F9zbA to update the firmware on my 1750DHPD.  When I copied my model number from the status page of the Buffalo web gui as instructed, which was actually DHP not DHPD!  At the time, I didn't know there was a difference.  I copied and pasted that incorrect model number into the Buffalo website search function and downloaded and installed the Buffalo software version 2.29.

Now, I've been trying all day to upgrade to a DD-WRT community version but haven't had any luck.  I'm very disappointed and frustrated right now, but I'm hopeful that Buffalo or someone in the community can help me out.  Any advice would be much appreciated.

I am very disappointed in Buffalo for doing this to us and you are not alone. Currently looking into buying/using routers from another vendor because of this issue with Buffalo, and they were my go to router vendor, that is now gone. :(

Let me try to clear up some things for you......There are two versions of this router, one is wzr-1750dhp and the other is wzr-1750dhpd and it was possible to install DDWRT on both but then Buffalo decided to lock down the wzr-1750dhp to only their stock firmware after firmware v2.27, most of us didn't know of this and they state that once you install the v2.27 you cannot go back to a firmware in which you could have installed a DDWRT version firmware on the router. Now in Buffalo's defence they have stated that they have to do this because of some agreements they signed, why the FUDGE would they sign an agreement like that and mess up the great router they sell is beyond me......had to be dollars involved....

Now the wzr-1750dhpd is the only one capable of using the DDWRT firmware. I currently own both the wzr-1750dhp(which is bricked) & dhpd routers and i have the dhpd one on DDWRT v29002 and this verison works best for me, i also used Buffalo's DDWRT v23709c then went to the DDWRT's v27805 which was okay but not close to the performance of the v29002 that i am using currently. To all owners of the dhpd router who read this, you only need the webflash.bin when flashing the wzr-1750dhpd as it is the DDWRT version.

Another thing you may not know is that if you manage to get any DDWRT firmware on the wzr-1750dhp router, this is possible but not through the normal way of flashing, it voids the warranty.

So, if you want to use the DDWRT firmware, you will need to get the DHPD version router and not the DHP once you want to keep the warranty and don't want to do something like this http://blog.tonywall.co/2013/06/de-bricking-a-buffalo-wifi-router-with-an-arduino/

Once again, if you are in the US contact technical support for assistance if you have flashed the Buffalo native firmware to a 1750DHPD.

I'm in australia, and couldn't source a local seller for the 1750DHPD so i bought one off ebay.
it arrived with firmware 2.27, foolishly i upgraded it to 2.29, but of the 1750DHP firmware (Not DHPD)

now nothing i can do will let me run the open version of DD-WRT on it.

I tried the factory reset then loading the admin page, as advised on other forums but entering bufpy and otdpopypassword i'm told 'wrong password'

i've tried installing an version of 2.27 from a link on the buffalo page, but that responds that the firmware is invalid

i really want to run dd-wrt, because it's the only reason i bought this unit, and i understood that the DHPD supported this.

Many companies like to sell their products worldwide but don't want to or over look the warranty worldwide. I too was in your position and i too found Buffalo's routers to be better than the more expensive units and with the ability to install and use DDWRT firmware was the last thing i needed to know to keep buying their products but with the present stance they have taken, and i am not saying it was a free choice because there is a fight growing about DDWRT/OpenWRT/Tomato firmware but unnamed three letter acronym security companies, it has left me with a hard decision to look for another vendor and sadly i have not found one yet.

I currently using the 1750dhpd with DDWRT v29147 and it works fine but DDWRT v29002 worked better IMO. I also have the 1750dhp, which is in a boot loop where the buffalo logo blinks thre times then off then blinks three times and so on and so on and i plan to see if this method http://blog.tonywall.co/2013/06/de-bricking-a-buffalo-wifi-router-with-an-arduino/ would work and if it does i will be installing a DDWRT firmware on it because the stock firmware hold back the real potential of the router.

Hope you get your router up and running.

here's hoping. I guess the kicker is that the this device (DHPD) is designed to support dd-wrt, but their update negated this.

If you have the firmware 2.27 then that is the DHP version and not the DHPD. They both look the same and have the same specs. the DHP comes in a fancy coloured box and the DHPD in a plain brown box with black writing and drawings.

It's definitely DHPD, it came in a plain brown carton. The carton and the router itself have DHPD printed on them as the model. Carton even says 'DD-WRT router"
It's just the firmware update which has turned it to a DHP.

Well that sucks big time. My DHPD had the BuffaloWRT on it and the update was the BuffaloWRT v23709c.

v2.29 must use web flash down to v2.27

only in v2.27 :

1.   Open the debug interface at
        http://192.168.11.1/cgi-bin/cgi?req=frm&frm=py-db/55debug.html

2.   Use username "bufpy" and password "otdpopypassword" to log in

3.   Go to the normal web interface at http://192.168.11.1 (automatically logged in in debug mode)
4.   Click on the new button "debug-disp"
5.   Click on the (second to last) link "admin", then on the (first) link "name"
6.   Click on the last link ending in firmup.html
7.   In this interface, any ".bin" firmware can be uploaded without the normal validation. (buffalo dd-wrt 23709c, dd-wrt factory-to-dd ....)

It should also be possible to downgrade to an earlier Buffalo stock firmware at this place (e.g. v2.22 without this problem).
