Please help! Can't see LS-SL2GB on the network anywhere!
« on: January 10, 2016, 07:01:26 AM »
Really hope someone can help here.  I'm stumped!

I'n trying to set up my LS-SL2GB on a new network - using a BT Home Hub - following a house move.

I'm trying to access the NAS using NAS Navigator 2, but it throws up the following error messages (in this order) ...
"NAS is not set correctly.  Use date and time from your computer?".  I click YES, and I get the following message ...
"Cannot connect to NAS".  Do you wish to automatically correct the IP address?".  I click YES and get ...
"Could not set system clock.  Failed to change the IP address of NAS".
I click OK and the NAS does show in the screen, with an IP address 192.168.0.8 - plus MAC address, Subnet mask etc all filled in.
However, there's a exclamation mark next to the NAS icon and clicking on this does absolutely nothing.

The NAS used to be mapped to the Z:  drive on my Windows PC, but that's now showing as an offline folder.
No joy through the iOS mobile apps SP NAVIGATOR or WebAccess either.
I've also tried typing that IP address into my browser, but no joy there either.
And I've tried reinstalling NAS Navigator 2, but that's not helped.

The blue light on the NAS is steady.

Any ideas?

Just to add ... I've tried all the above with Windows Firewall disabled.

I've also plugging in the NAS directly to my Windows PC's LAN socket.

Never heard of a LS-SL2GB, what is the correct model number?
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

A quick update to this.

I've tried plugging the WD HDD from the NAS into my desktop computer.

The good news is that the BIOS does find the HDD, hopefully meaning the HDD isn't dead!
BUT Windows doesn't recognise it.

So does anyone know how Buffalo formats the HDD?   And how I can get Windows to read it?

Many thanks.

The file format is XFS, Windows cannot nativly see it, POP the disk into any Linux OS, there are 5 partitions, the data partition is the largest.

  • RAID is NOT a substitute for a good backup

It sounds like the unit has a static IP set in a different subnet from the PC. Try setting a static IP on the PC in the 192.168.0 subnet. You should then be able to access the GUI of the LinkStation and set the IP address to DHCP.
