How to setup two wzr-600dhp routers as access points
« on: July 22, 2013, 02:28:43 PM »
Hi,

I have two wzr-600dhp routers. I bought the second router because I needed more wireless coverage as one was in the basement. The other is on the second floor.
One is setup as an actual router, the other is setup as an access point.
Both are hard wired to the network via ethernet.
The access point is connected to the network via one of the LAN ports so both routers are connected to the same subnet. The access point has the WAN port disabled and DHCP turned off of course.

My question is; What is the best or recommended way to setup both routers to optimize wireless signal.
At the moment I have it setup like this;

RouterA
2.4Ghz - SSID: Wilreless1, NG - Mixed, Turbo 40Mhz
5Ghz - SSID: Wireless2, NA - Mixed, Turbo 40Mhz

RouterB
2.4Ghz - SSID: Wilreless1, NG - Mixed, Turbo 40Mhz
5Ghz - SSID: Wireless2, NA - Mixed, Turbo 40Mhz

So at this point I am seeing only two wireless networks, Wireless1 and Wireless2.

But I am not sure if this is optimal or best practice or what. Maybe it is bad to have two routers setup like this.

Need a guru on this one. I have read the Understanding & Optimizing 802.11n Technical Brief from 2011. Great document!

But internet resources on what I have setup seem scarce or not explained well.

Thanks!
