BSOD with Vista SP2
« on: May 30, 2009, 03:38:40 PM »
I have a HD-CE1.0TIU2 hooked up via Firewire 400 to my Windows Vista 32-bit machine.  The hard disk was switched to Auto power mode.  A couple days ago I used Windows Update to install Vista SP2, which just came out.  Within minutes of finishing the upgrade, the machine crashed with Blue Screen.  After many repeated reboots, the machine keeps crashing, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes a bit more, but it always crashes with blue screen. After switching my HD-CE1.0TIU2 off, but leaving it attached via Firewire, the crashing problem is gone, and everything is fine.  Any ideas for what's wrong and what I should do to fix this?

1) Try re-installing your Fire400 card drivers again.

2) Try connecting USB and see if BSOD happens again.

Re-intalling Firewire 400 drivers did not fix the problem.  I wasn't able to restore my recent Vista updates either.  Switching to USB does seem to work.  Not the ideal solution, as I would have preferred Firewire, but I guess I will have to live with USB.

It seems like a Firewire issue with the computer or at least Windows.

Have you tried it in another computer?

You could also try a system restore, also update your BIOS/Chipset drivers.

I don't have access to another computer wire Firewire 400.  But on this computer, it was working fine with Firewire 400 until I updated to Vista SP2.  That's when the BSODs started to happen.
