The firmware update only touches the firmware partition, not the data. However, since things may go wrong in isolated circumstances, we recommend having a backup of the data before performing the firmware update.

I tried updateing the firmware but it fails with an error that says: "Couldn't confirm a response from FALCON" (Falcon is the name of the drive). The update then aborts.

At this time I can still connect to the drive and the NAS still sees it.

I went through and ran each update seperately. The first three complete wihtout a problem. The last one, update rootfs, is the one that fails.

Do you have any firewalls/countermeasures running on your PC?

I turned off my firewall on the PC. I'm not sure if the internal network here goes through the firewall or not.

It looks like the LAN is open.

Update:

On a whim I moved the drive to a different router. I tried flashing the firmware again and this time it worked. I'll leave the drive connected to this router and see what happens.
