WZR-HP-G300NH (US)

+1 for:

-USB - printer server function

-Bandwidth priority based on MAC or computer name

Also adding:

More Robust Torrent client:

-RSS support

-the ability to store downloaded files on a network share, not just a USB drive

-Seeding limits (i.e. stop seeding after 3:1 or 48 hours or whatever)

-MoBlock support

-The Holy Grail: a small "remote control" desktop app for the torrent client so that I could manage downloads independently of the web browser (could this be integrated into the client manager app?)

-Support for other large downloads (HTTP/FTP)

-NTFS support (I know, the engineers haven't green-lighted it yet, but keep at it!)

-If printer support is added, then USB hub support so that both a drive and a printer could be added simultaneously

-UPnP media streaming support to Windows Media Player, etc.

-Vain as it is, a little prettier config pages. Little things like tabs instead of boxes for the subheadings, slightly nicer (customizable?) color scheme, etc.

That's all I got for now :-). Thanks for reading!

Joey

After having my new Buffalo router WZR-HP-G300NH 24 hours, here's what I'd like to see:

  • Parental control filter (website blocking)
  • Support for external hard drives using the NTFS format (I know this was excluded by choice, but I think it should be reconsidered). I have two external hard drives -- both using NTFS, and I can't change them. Right now, they're worthless because I can't connect them to my new router. (see also next suggestion, possible work-around).The FAT standard is a step backward from NTFS.
  • Capability to connect a USB hub to my usb port. This way, I could connect various devices, including printers and multiple external hard drives. Perhaps it could be added to the software to deny Web Access, thus assuring security for these other usb devices. Whichever router manufacturer develops this capability first will sell a truckload of routers!
  • Capability to eliminate security and use only MAC address filtering. Security adds delay. As a full-time day trader, delay can kill me because micro-seconds are critical in every trade. Even the slightest delay can cost me money!

My router is working flawlessly! It's a thing of beauty! Thanks for a grrrrreat router!

One thing I noticed and really like about the web interface that is better than other web interfaces I've used with other routers:

I like that there are instructions, definitions, and explanations right on the screen at the right side. VERY nice! I don't have to look up a manual because everything I need is right there!

I can't imagine that this is only my copy of the web config utility, but the tab "LAN Config" appears TWICE! They have different functions, however. Two tabs with the same name?

Wouldn't it be a good idea in future updates to change the name of one of these  tabs, so there aren't two with the same name?

You can already block websites by their IP in the IP Filter under the Security tab. You should be able to disable wireless encryption and enable MAC filtering. I seen on a review of the router somewhere that a USB hub does seem to work but is not officialy supported.

Thanks, Aveyer, for the info. Especially interested in the USB hub functionality. I'll play with it and see what I can come up with! It would especially be nice to be able to use my Phantom drive and printers via the usb port.

I wish for an access restriction feature. I'm not sure if someone who mentioned 'parental control' meant the same. This 'Access restriction' feature would include restriction both by ip in your lan and in the www. It would also enable traffic control by clock.

New wish:

I' like to see a QoS prioritization list that allows me to add more than 8 applications or ports. I've already run out of prioritization items! Could we put an "add" button at the bottom so that I could just click and keep adding?

It would also be helpful if I could use a RANGE of ports on one line instead of just one!

Thanks!

Yet another wish: a site survey feature would be handy.

By the way: my location is in Europe.

Site survey feature - please be more specific on what kind of survey?

BTW - if someone has already mentioned a feature, feel free to second it.

We're taking counts of how many customers want each feature. Obviously, the higher customer count for a feature, the more weight it gets from the engineers in Japan.

Id like to see following features in future firmware:

1. WDS support

2. NTFS support on external NAS drives

3. USB hub support

4. software RAID for multiple external USB drives (though i know this won't happen, since it would eat markets from Buffalo drivestation product line)

5. Fix for peridiocal WLAN drops

6. Print server on USB port

Cheers,

My location is europe

I'm in the US.

1.) Overall improved reliability and bug fixes

2.) WDS - This is very important for many of us who are experienced users!  I returned my WZR-HP-G300NH, but would gladly buy it again once WDS is implemented.
